Sports Award Ceremony

For over 20 years, the highlight of the Canadian Forces (CF) sports year has been and continues to be the Canadian Forces Sports Award Ceremony. Annually, this prestigious event brings together 350 distinguished guests and honorees to pay tribute to athletic excellence within the military community. Guests have included the Chief of the Defence Staff, Environmental Chiefs of Staff, CF Sports Patrons and corporate sponsors.

This year’s theme is a “Tribute to Our Deployed Athletes” and will be highlighting the many sporting dimensions of our athletes while deployed in operations around the world. Sports and fitness plays an important role in their physical and mental health while in theater. Having to balance numerous aspects of their work, the realities of the operational setting, and the stress of being away from home and family, can be a daunting task for our military personnel. The dedication, teamwork, perseverance and commitment that our CF athletes demonstrate while on tour, contributes to the operational readiness and effectiveness of our modern military.

Major award presentations include the Male and Female Athlete, Coach and Official and Team of the Year. In Oscar-fashion, the nominees for these categories are announced in the fall and, after much anticipation, the winners were revealed at the CF Sports Awards Ceremony. These awards are presented by senior officials as well as our ceremony sponsors. During the ceremony, a few select CF members were also inducted into the prominent Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame and Honour Roll.

On behalf of the Canadian Forces Personnel and Family Support Services (CFPFSS), we would like to extend our sincere THANKS to our corporate sponsors for their participation and generous contribution to the 22nd annual Canadian Forces Sports Awards Ceremony that is being held on Saturday, November 6th 2010 at the National Gallery of Canada. Our sponsor’s generous support has played a major role in promoting fitness and good health within the military community, and thus, contributing to the CF's mandate of operational readiness.
