Pilot Project Update: Canadian Education Portal

Imagine being a child in a strange new place where, except for your family, you don’t know anyone. You have no friends, and you know nothing about your new school and community. Now imagine that this is your child.

Moving to a new place and adjusting to a new school, new teachers and new friends can be an overwhelming experience for most Canadian Forces (CF) families. With the Canadian Education Portal, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) hopes to alleviate some of the uncertainty and anxiety of changing schools. The Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) has completed an information template for the Portal, and DMFS has developed the content. The completed Portal will provide a standardized set of national and provincial/territorial education resources, including Canadian/MFRCs’ local and regional education information.

The Portal will provide online services and education information for families as they transition to a new home and attend a new school. The Canadian Education Portal will supplement the services available through C/MFRCs with self-serve, online tips, resources and information. Should Chief Military Personnel approve this pilot, the Portal is envisioned as a key component of www.FamilyForce.ca.
