Canadian Education Portal
To assist military family members with their education queries, the Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) has designed a template for the Canadian Education Portal, a centralized, online list of resources. The pilot project will give military families and MFRC staff a single reference point for a wide variety of informative education resources. National, provincial/territorial and local resources as well as Department of National Defence and non Defence-related materials will be included.
The pilot project aims to create a customizable template that can be used by any MFRC. It includes a standardized set of national and provincial/territorial education resources, as well as opportunities for MFRCs to add local and regional information. The Winnipeg MFRC has now completed the template and has turned it over to DMFS to begin adding more information and resources.
The pilot project will also develop protocols and best practice standards for engaging with Dependent Education Management (DEM) and other Canadian education stakeholders. By developing a partnership with DEM, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) will ensure that the Education Portal complements rather than duplicates the education services already available, and opens avenues for DEM and MFRCs to refer families to the organization that will best meet their needs.
