Child Care Information Portal
Drawing on the success of the www.familynavigator.ca web portal for families with special needs, the Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) will pilot an online Child Care Information Portal. The pilot will expand the capacity of the Family Navigator website to include a Child Care section, featuring comprehensive, community-specific information and resources about casual, emergency and emergency respite child care.
The aim of the Child Care Information Portal is to keep parents well-informed about the child care providers and resources available in each Canadian Forces (CF) community. Though finding high-quality child care services can be a challenge in communities nationwide, it is hoped that the Child Care Information Portal will help CF families make the most of the child care options available to them.
During the pilot project, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) and the Esquimalt MFRC will assess viability of nationalizing the Portal so that eventually each MFRC could maintain and update their local information. Esquimalt will also use the pilot to determine whether sharing child care information through the portal succeeds in increasing access to child care services.
