Volunteers Make a Difference in Colorado Springs

In Colorado Springs, volunteering in the local community is a great way for families to connect with other Canadians, and get settled into their home away from home.

To celebrate the volunteers who’ve helped make Canadian family events a success, the Colorado Springs Canadian Military Family Resource Centre (CMFRC) held its Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on 1 December 2009. In all, 42 adult and youth volunteers came out to enjoy good food and great company at the event, which was sponsored by SISIP Financial Services’ Volunteer Recognition Program.

“We had 72 Canadians who volunteered at our events throughout the year, which is a great number from a small community of about 160 Canadian Forces members,” says Linda Narozanski, Canadian Community Program Coordinator.

“We also refer quite a few families to other volunteer opportunities in the community, on and off the Air Force Base,” Linda says. “There’s a lot of community involvement.”

The dinner was organized under the theme One Person Can Make a Difference, a philosophy which is evident to the Colorado Springs CMFRC’s approach to volunteer recruitment and recognition.

“We include everyone, from those who spent an hour helping out at a booth at our Winter Wonderland carnival to those who help out quite regularly – every contribution helps.”
