Update on the Enhancement of the MFSP: Employment
Building upon the recommendations of the Employment Advisory Committee and Working Group and feedback received during Canadian Forces (CF) Family Summits I and II, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) continues to work towards enhancing CF family employment services. Pilot projects at the Trenton and Halifax & Region Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs) have developed templates to enhance the ability of CF family members to find meaningful employment, and bolster the support available from Canadian/MFRC employment staff.
With the National Employment Awareness Template pilot project, the Halifax & Region MFRC has developed national, online information and resources for job seekers and employers. The Trenton MFRC’s complementary pilot project has developed an online job match template to link all C/MFRCs, and build relationships between CF family members who are seeking work with organizations that have job vacancies. The two centres have developed their pilot projects in consultation with one another to ensure both initiatives will blend well at completion.
DMFS has received drafts of the content from both MFRCs, and is in the process of amalgamating the information. Once combined, the two projects will form an employment portal which will raise awareness of the benefits of hiring military family members, connect all C/MFRCs’ employment services, and allow CF families to access information and resources to ease employment transitions anytime, anywhere.
The end result will be a collection of online resources and awareness tools that can easily be accessed by service providers or directly by CF families. Upon final approval, it is anticipated that these new initiatives will be part of the new www.FamilyForce.ca website, which is expected to be unveiled in March 2010.
