Changing the way we do eBusiness

The eBusiness Centre is getting a modern upgrade to better represent the services and programs being delivered by Canadian/Military Family Resource Centres (C/MFRCs).

When the Military Family Services Program (MFSP) eBusiness Centre launched in 2006-2007, its goal was to provide a central access point to exchange financial information between C/MFRCs and Director Military Family Services (DMFS). It was recognized as cutting edge at the time and quickly became an invaluable tool which moved us into the electronic world.

However, the MFSP has seen significant changes in the four short years since the eBusiness Centre launched. Over time, both DMFS and C/MFRCs have proposed improvements for the eBusiness Centre which would allow C/MFRCs to provide a more detailed picture of their business operations, programs, services and financial information.

To that end, DMFS has developed a revitalized eBusiness Centre with enhanced capabilities. The revamped eBusiness Centre will allow both DMFS and C/MFRCs to do their business better: DMFS will be able to allocate and be accountable for public funds,  and ensure that the services being provided by C/MFRCs are in the best interests of Canadian Forces families; C/MFRCs will be able to more accurately report on the services they provide to families with more targeted, less fragmented information.

Philosophically, the eBusiness Centre upgrade represents a shift in focus from the Funding Application to the Service Delivery Agreement and Quarterly Reports. DMFS has streamlined each of the documents where possible, and added sections to enable C/MFRCs to provide information about the services being offered, and the level of participation in the community.

To recognize the role of C/MFRCs’ partners and volunteers, DMFS has also included sections to identify partners directly involved in delivery of services and articulate the level of involvement of volunteers in all aspects of the MFSP. This information will give DMFS a wider picture of the way C/MFRCs are delivering services in their communities.

DMFS will be conducting a user test with five selected MFRC Executive Directors and Board members as well as some out of country participants in early March 2010. Once their feedback has been factored in, DMFS will finalize training requirements and communicate the results to all centres.

The revitalized MFSP eBusiness Centre is expected to officially launch in the summer of 2010.  Watch for more updates as DMFS moves this project forward!
