Update on the Enhancement of the MFSP: Deployment and Reunion
Canadian Forces (CF) Summits I and II stressed the need for consistent, appropriate services to support families throughout deployment and reunion. Raising awareness about available services and enhancing deployment and reunion services for underserved populations, such as children and youth, were key Summit recommendations.
Building upon the feedback received at the Summits and from the Deployment and Reunion Advisory Committee, Director Military Family Services (DMFS) has begun responding to these recommendations by forging substantial partnerships with CF and civilian community support organizations to enhance the awareness and provision of deployment and reunion services.
In addition, as part of its Project Fund initiatives, DMFS has supported the development of the following local projects:
The Esquimalt Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) has completed its work on the Deployment Video Project, which is intended to guide families through the recognized stages of separation and reunion.
The Kingston MFRC has submitted its Resilience Toolkit, which features an amalgamation of the best deployment and reunion presentations and resources currently in use across Canada.
These two projects will be complemented by the Petawawa MFRC’s work on the Children’s Deployment Support Program, which supports children and youth in CF families experiencing the deployment of a loved one.
The results of these Project Fund initiatives will be included in DMFS’ comprehensive analysis of the proposed enhancements for the Military Family Services Program. Those projects that are selected to proceed will then be proposed for endorsement by Chief Military Personnel.
