May 23, 2006, at the Saint-Jean Garrison, the 2nd edition of the "Richelain d'Or" Sports Awards Ceremony was held. Our best athletic talents were recognized during the event, which was organized by PSP personnel in the Montreal region. Athletes, coaches, officials and teams from the Montreal region came together to honour the athletic accomplishments that took place between May 1, 2005 and April 30, 2006.
Drawing on the Olympic magic theme, a flame was carried into the auditorium to begin the ceremony. A video montage was then presented to recall some very memorable moments and a variety of other high points at the Olympics. Such examples of raising one's level of performance, team spirit and victory reminded everyone that the ceremony honoured men and women who had experienced these emotions during the past year.
The 5 ASG Commanding Officer, LCol Hercule Gosselin; Mr. Gaétan Melançon, Director Physical Education, CFPSA; Mr. Christian Roy, PSP Manager, 5 ASG; and François Gagnon, Director Physical Education and Sports in the Montreal region, were present and helped distribute the awards.
The "Richelain d'Or" ceremony provided an opportunity to congratulate all of these exceptional athletes who, by virtue of their performances, raised the profile of the Montreal region within the Canadian Forces. More than 30 members and civilians were rewarded for their involvement and athletic performances. Congratulations to you all!
